What is Aperture?

APERTURE :

Aperture is next term that you need to know and the easiest way to explain it is – “The hole in the lens that allows light into the camera”. A set of aperture blades will open/close to control the size of the hole, and thus, limiting the amount of light going into the camera. The aperture size is measured in f-stops or f-number (e.g. f/1.4, f/2.8, f/4, f/22, etc…).

The smaller this number is, the larger the aperture size will be.Smaller f-numbers allow more light into the camera, larger f-numbers allow less light into the camera.

Generally, we will like our lenses to have large maximum apertures, which allows more light into the camera and helps when we are taking photos in places that are dimly lit. But take that with a pinch of salt, as some lenses with small apertures actually take better photos. The key – do your own research.

What is Kit Lens?

*KIT LENS :

What it is: This is not really a “kind” of lens, but we usually call the “starter” lens that comes packaged with cameras as “kit lens”. The 18-55mm lens is a classic kit lens for both Nikon and Canon.

Common usage: Nearly anything, mostly casual shots.

Advantages: Well, they are cheap and decently well made. Good for generic and everyday use.

Disadvantages: Don’t expect too much out of kit lenses. They don’t really produce a lot of quality pictures.

GMB Akash's Speech on TEDx Hyderabad

"Twenty years ago, my father’s old camera was a vessel to reach to my dream. To discover a road that was unseen to me. When my all friends were juggling hard and were bit of sure about their well-to- do degrees and to them I was the bohemian. Frankly I was happy with my identity. The neighbour woman who reputedly beaten by her husband everyday was my story, the gay who occasionally danced in a known prohibited lobby was my interest, girls under the red light was my canvas. I was trying hard to get all answers and to know their sufferings. My emotional thrust and their vulgar sufferings stroked and thus I found my way out. I started documenting sufferings and found beauty in ugliness, happiness in despair, dreams in suffocation. I am not a photo revolutionist; I am just a poor story teller, who has nothing but a suitcase full of tale." - GMB Akash.
